First time iHeartRadio MMVA performer Alessia Cara experienced another first this past week when she made her debut on the Coachella stage. The Canadian singer was one of the youngest performers at the annual festival, which featured headline sets from Calvin Harris, Guns N Roses and LCD Soundsystem.
In a new interview this week, Cara talks about her feelings towards the celebrity-friendly music festival, saying that she thinks Coachella has its own vibe. “It’s not really like any other festival. It’s just so busy and I think everybody is here. It’s like a universally amazing and fun thing that everyone wants to do.”
In the past year of shows, which have included appearances on the Tonight Show, the JUNO Awards, and Cara’s own tour, the Brampton native says that she’s learned how to become a performer. “I’m learning how to work the stage and talk to the audience. There’s a big difference between how I used to be (on stage) and now.”
Even after playing high profile venues, Cara says she still gets nervous, but is able to now channel that energy. “I still get nervous. I think I’m just as nervous as I used to be, I’ve just managed to turn my fear into good nerves and turn my fear into adrenaline. I’m not afraid to perform anymore.”
In addition to a successful Coachella appearance, Cara is also celebrating the one year anniversary of her break out track “Here.”
