The first performers of the JUNO awards were announced today and our hometown hero Alessia Cara will be taking the stage at the ceremony.
The Brampton native has had a stellar year. Following the release of her breakout hit Here, the anti-social party anthem of the summer, Cara rose to fame. During her media tour, she continued to impress celebrities and fans alike with her amazing covers of hits. We gushed about her Hotline Bling cover. She outdid Justin Bieber on her version of Love Yourself. Her rendition of Bad Blood gained praise from Taylor Swift herself. Swifty went on to bring Cara out as a surprise guest on her 1989 Tour, and even interviewed her backstage.
Her debut album, Know-It-All, dropped last month, and continued the themes of fleeting youth and innoncence we loved in Here. Despite her wicked talent that sky-rocketed her into the spotlight, she still embodies that humble, down-to-earth vibe of a girl next door.
Undoubtedly, Cara is one of our favourite artists on the scene, and we can’t wait to see her perform at next year’s JUNOs, airing on Sunday, April 3 on CTV and CTV GO.
