If there’s one thing you can count on with Beck, it’s that you can’t count on any song sounding like something previously released by the Grammy winner.
That is definitely the case with Beck’s latest track “Wow,” which acts as the first single from his upcoming 13th studio album, due out in October. Folk meets pop meets electronic meets a pan flute come together to create Beck’s first release since 2015’s “Dreams,” with “Wow” bringing an exciting energy that is perfect for the summer months.
After announcing the new single yesterday on his Twitter account, he sat down for an interview with Beats 1’s Zane Lowe. Beck revealed that all the songs for the new album have been written, as well as songs for another new album. He also said that “Wow” wasn’t even going to make the album until his kids insisted he include the track.
The upcoming untitled album is a follow-up to the 2014 record Morning Phase, the same disc that won the Grammy for Album of the Year and caused Kanye West to be super Kanye West.
Beck worked with his former bandmate Greg Kurstin on the new track. Kurstin has been busy making his way through the pop world, working with Adele, Sia, Kelly Clarkson, and most recently, Tegan and Sara on their new album Love You To Death.
