Carly Rae Jepsen has revealed that her next album will feature influences from ABBA and The Bee Gees, but right now the Canadian singer is all about 2016 club songs.
Teaming up with British music producer Danny L Harle, Jepsen sweetly sings, “This isn’t normal, not at all / It’s just like we don’t try / We just fit, you and I / We are supernatural” over a straight electronic beat on the duo’s new single, “Super Natural.”
The pair first performed the track live in July at a Red Bull Music Academy concert in L.A. The concert was the Pop City Party put on by PC Music, which Harle is signed to. The same event also featured the new song, “Bounce” from Charli XCX and A.G. Cook.
Now Jepsen and Harle have released the studio version of “Super Natural”, which shows a sharp departure from Jepsen’s sound on 2015’s critically acclaimed EMOTION.
Harle says that Jepsen was his dream vocalist after hearing her breakout track, “Call Me Maybe.” In a press release, Harle goes on to say, “I wrote the melody for ‘Super Natural’ before I had any lyrics in mind, and even at that stage I knew it was going to be an important track for me. I found that the lyrics came to me easily once I had the tune.”
The catchy electronic tune stands out thanks to Jepsen’s vocals, with Harle saying, “I love her take on the track; her voice has an amazingly positive energy which was essential in giving “Super Natural” a necessary sense of euphoria.”
