Canadian Queen of Pop Carly Rae Jepsen is the latest celeb in Pitchfork‘s Over/Under hot seat, in which artists rate a series of random topics as overrated or underrated.
According to her, weddings are overrated (“They seem stressful”), crying in public is underrated (“If you need to cry, let it on out”) and rhinos, she’s deduced, are just, “ugly unicorns.” See where she stands on texting “LOL” and more in the video below.
Since the release of her critically acclaimed album (EMOTION) and the follow-up album of remixes (EMOTION REMIXED +), Jepsen has been busy getting nominated for this year’s Polaris Prize, parodying Kanye’s Famous video and, to our delight, working on her new album.
According to an interview with The Vancouver Sun, Jepsen has already been in the studio making new tracks for her fourth album. Instead of the ’80s sound EMOTION captured, her next album will embrace the ’70s.
“I can’t explain what we’re doing right now, but we’re very much into disco-y things, whatever this next album may or may not turn out to be,” she said. “But I’m very much referencing ABBA a lot, and the Bee Gees, all of that stuff.”
Her most recent live appearance was at PC Music’s Pop City Party in L.A. back in July, where she gave fans a taste of new music by performing previously leaked track “Supernatural” for the first time live. Watch the performance below and pray she releases a studio version very soon.
