Coldplay surprised fans last week with the announcement of their seventh studio album A Head Full Of Dreams and are now sweetening the deal with the release of the first single!
Adventure of a Lifetime hits listeners with a wave of unexpected sounds from the folk rock band. The intro packs a cacophony of sounds that bring colour and vibrancy to the track from the very first note. An Afro-funk drum and bassline mixed with experimental vocals are a huge departure from what fans are used to hearing from Coldplay, although the band has been hinting at the shift with their singles Waterfall and A Sky Full Of Stars.
The album’s 12 new songs (including a hidden bonus track) feature guest appearances from Beyoncé, Noel Gallagher, Tove Lo and Merry Clayton, a huge shift for Coldplay, who rarely feature additional vocalists on their records.
Guest vocals aren’t the only change fans will notice on A Head Full Of Dreams. Recorded in LA, London and Malibu, the new album is produced by Rik Simpson and Norweigan duo Stargate, who are best known for their success in pop and R&B with Beyonce, Rihanna, Ne-Yo and Selena Gomez.
To promote A Head Full Of Dreams, band members Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, and Will Champion appeared on BBC Radio 1 with Zane Lowe to talk about the album (possibly their last) and completely impress us with making the most boring songs in the world sound like hits.
Coldplay’s seventh studio album A Head Full Of Dreams is set to be released on December 4.
