Following the news in December 2016 that Fifth Harmony would continue on as a foursome after the departure of Camila Cabello, the remaining members took some time to off to regroup before hitting the studio.
Lauren Jauregui recorded “Strangers” with Halsey for the pop star’s sophomore album, which dropped today, while Normani Kordei appeared on this season’s Dancing With The Stars, making it all the way to the finals and placing third. Now with their first post-Cabello single “Down,” it sounds as though Fifth Harmony haven’t missed a step.
Sounding like an instant hit, “Down” has the same heavy bass line as “Work From Home,” while mashing it up with the summery feeling of 2016’s “All In My Head (Flex).”
Teaming up with rapper Gucci Mane, the new song is the same writing team the group worked with for their huge 2016 single “Work From Home.” Speaking with the BBC’s Zane Lowe, Fifth Harmony revealed that the new record will feature a number of songs co-written by the group members, saying that feeling more connected to the songs by helping write the lyrics comes through in their vocals. The band has yet to announce a title or release date for their third studio album, a follow up to 2016’s 7/27.
Fifth Harmony performed “Down” for the first time this morning on Good Morning America, telling hosts Michael Strahan and Lara Spencer that they’ve been in the studio working on new music with Skrillex and Justin Bieber hitmaker Poo Bear.
