We got our first glimpse of Tom Holland as Spider-Man and Marisa Tomei as Aunt Meg in Captain America: Civil War, but with today’s first full length trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming, we’re getting a more in-depth look at the British actor as the Marvel superhero—and our spidy senses are tingling.
Holland’s Peter Parker is a typical teenager lusting over popular girl Liz Allan (Laura Harrier), hanging out with his bestie Ned (Jacob Batalon) and getting bullied by classmate Michelle, played by Zendaya, who apparently wasn’t kidding when she insisted the rumours about her playing Mary Jane were false.
After getting a taste of his abilities in Captain America: Civil War, Parker is eager to get back to saving lives, but his mentor Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) cautions Peter against any superhero behavior, saying “Don’t do anything I would do. And definitely don’t do anything I wouldn’t do. There’s a little gray area in there and that’s where you operate.”
Of course, Peter ignores Tony Stark and throws on his suit in an effort to battle Michael Keaton’s Batman—sorry, Vulture—who threatens to kill everyone Peter loves.
The trailer features the same humour and action that made up The Amazing Spider-Man films that starred fellow Brit Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, which does beg the question, do we need another Spider-Man franchise so soon?
Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theatres on July 7, 2017.
