Hamburger Helper Dropped A Mixtape And It’s Actually Fire

helper

What a time to be alive.

In 2016, brands and organizations are always looking for unique ways to connect with their audiences over social media. Denny’s and Skittles are both good examples, but this past weekend it was Hamburger Helper that stirred the pot with some tasty eats beats.

On Friday, instead of the usual jokes and celebrity impersonations, the Hamburger Helper mascot, Lefty, went ahead and dropped the mixtape that he’s been cooking up for some time now.

The tape, titled Watch The Stove (a reference to Kanye West and Jay Z’s Watch The Throne) is five tracks deep, and frankly, it’s much easier to digest than some other SoundCloud mixtapes.

Lefty’s love for the hip-hop scene is evident when pressing play on this tape, as the five songs each display a different, yet recognizable sound within hip hop.

Crazy sounds like some eccentric Tyler, the Creator production. In Love With The Glove borrows a sound from the ever-expanding R&B/trap-influenced sound popular with artists like Bryson Tiller and Roy Wood$. The beat on Food For Your Soul is reminiscent of old-school hip hop and sounds like something you’d hear while digging through some East Coast records. The first two tracks on the tape bring that Hamburger Helper heat with production that is sure to have you nodding your head in confusion.

As for the lyrical content on the tape, it’s definitely family friendly and features some laughable and fun lyrics. But really, you shouldn’t be taking a mixtape from Hamburger Helper all that seriously, especially with lyrics like: “I want tacos, enchiladas/ I want pasta and lasagna/ boy I got too many flavours/ you might have thought it was catered”.

Since Friday, the five tracks have garnered a total of over four million plays on the Hamburger Helper SoundCloud page. Something we didn’t think would ever exist.

On top of apparently DJing clubs, Lefty has already shot and released two music videos for the tracks In Love With The Glove and Crazy.

The project fittingly dropped on April Fool’s day and has left listeners hungry for a second serving of what Lefty has to offer. Listen to the mixtape below!
