Alessia Cara, Drake, Shawn Mendes And The Weeknd Lead The iHeartRadio MMVA Nominations!

MMVA Nomination Announcement

The nominations for the 2016 iHeartRadio MMVAs have just been announced and Alessia Cara, Drake, The Weeknd and Shawn Mendes lead the pack!

Alessia Cara and Drake are tied for the top spot with an incredible seven nominations each. Alessia Cara’s breakout single “Here” landed her nominations for Video of the Year, Best Pop Video, Most Buzzworthy Canadian, Best New Canadian Artist, iHeartRadio Canadian Single of the Year, Fan Fave Artist or Group and Fan Fave Video.

Drake’s meme-making music video for “Hotline Bling” earned him nominations for Video of the Year, Best Hip Hop Video, Most Buzzworthy Canadian, Fan Fave Artist Or Group, Fan Fave Video and Best Director for Director X. Drake’s collaboration with OVO label mate Majid Jordan, “My Love,” is up for Best MuchFact Video.

Shawn Mendes has six nominations, including Video of the Year, Best Pop Video and Fan Fave Video for his duet “I Know What You Did Last Summer” with Camila Cabello. The Fifth Harmony member will be appearing at the iHeartRadio MMVAs for the first time this year when she performs with her group, who scored three nominations of their own.

Also landing six nominations this year is Toronto’s own The Weeknd, with “Can’t Feel My Face” up for iHeartRadio Canadian Single of the Year. The Weeknd’s collaboration with Belly on “Might Not” is also up for three awards, including Video of the Year, Best Hip Hop Video, and Best MuchFact Video.

Performers Macklemore & Ryan Lewis nabbed three nominations thanks to their infectious track, “Downtown.” Fellow performers Hailee Steinfeld and Nick Jonas go head-to-head in Most Buzzworthy International Artist or Group, with Jonas also scoring a nod for iHeartRadio International Artist of the Year.

Justin Bieber, Grimes, Belly, Majid Jordan and Coleman Hell all earned three nominations for this year’s iHeartRadio MMVAs. Hedley, Alessia Cara, Fifth Harmony, and Vine musician Kenzie Nimmo are this year’s Wildcard nominee winners for Fan Fave.
