Hailee Steinfeld may be best known for earning an Oscar nomination for her role in True Grit at 14, but the actress is quickly adding another big feather to her cap – pop star.
After singing her way through this year’s hit comedy Pitch Perfect 2, Steinfeld jumped on the momentum and got to work on building her music career. With her first album likely dropping sometime this year, we have to ask: could the teen actress be the next big thing in pop music? We think so.
1. She’s got the voice.
We first heard a bit of what Steinfeld was packing in the voice department when she starred alongside Keira Knightley, Adam Levin and Mark Ruffalo in Begin Again, but it wasn’t until this year’s Pitch Perfect 2 that Hailee really got to shine. Since then, she’s released her first single, the self-empowerment anthem Love Myself, effectively giving us something to blast as soon as we get up in the morning.
2. She’s got the moves.
Whether she’s rocking a bodysuit on stage at The Streamy Awards or dancing in her first music video, Steinfeld is a natural performer.
3. Steinfeld is already a pro.
After a steady stream of commercials and small TV gigs, Hailee scored the role of Mattie in True Grit at the young age of 13. She earned an Oscar nom for her work in the movie and went on to star in films like Hateship, Loveship, Romeo and Juliet, Ender’s Game and The Homesman. Her experience with everything from press junkets to red carpets to long days on-set means that Hailee already has a jump start on knowing what to expect from a career in the spotlight.
4. She has some big name supporters.
Canadian singer Shawn Mendes teamed up with Hailee this summer to release an acoustic duet of his song Stitches, making us fall in love with the track all over again. Steinfeld has also worked with UK singer Jessie J, recording the song Flashlight for Pitch Perfect 2 and helping to make it an instant smash.
5. There are never too many women in music.
From Demi Lovato to Tori Kelly to Lorde to Selena Gomez to bestie Taylor Swift, Steinfeld has no shortage of backing from awesome women in music.
