Jacob Hoggard’s 5 Most Memorable Junos Moments

The 2015 Juno Awards went down tonight and were light on the awards and heavy on the lols thanks to host Jacob Hoggard. Hedley’s frontman was more than up for the task of steering the Canadian music show, combining his flare for the dramatics with his hilarious comedic timing.

From start to finish, Hoggard kept the show moving and the fans laughing. Here are his five best moments from the 2015 Juno Awards.

1. Opening Skit

From making Michael Buble look like a jerk to getting a call from Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Hoggard got off to a cameo-filled start. His opening skit concluded with Jacob breaking the news to his bandmates that hosting duties would be a solo mission, sparking an ‘I hate Hoggard’ movement from his bandmates. We’re sure they’re over it by now…or not.

2. Anything Performance

Hoggard quickly made up with his bandmates and kicked off the night of performances with their single Anything. In true bad boy fashion, Jake clearly mouthed the ‘f**k that’ lyrics during the song’s chorus. You can put a rock star in a suit, but he’s still a rock star.

3. Is that a unitard?

From a variety of navy suits, to a black vest with no shirt, to a gold unitard, Hoggard proved to Canada that there’s no look he can’t pull off.

4. Memorable one-liners

Hoggard had a number of primo one-liners throughout the night, including a few shots at Etalk host Ben Mulroney, a reference to ‘drinking Hamilton pretty’, and plenty of self-deprecating shots at himself. But as a Canadian awards show we of course have to give it up to Hoggard’s hockey line. After winning only two of the 29 Junos nominations Hedley has received over the years, Hoggard compared Hedley to the Toronto Maple Leafs, except Hedley will still be playing in the spring. ZING.

5. Thank you Jacob

After a night of laughs, Hoggard saved his best material for the final performance of the 2015 Juno Awards. Following Alanis Morissette’s beautiful compilation of songs from Jagged Little Pill, Jacob sat down at the piano to cover her song Thank You. In true Hoggard style, he asked the Junos to find someone warmer to film and then thanked Ben Mulroney’s hair and Nickelback for not showing up.
