Kelly Clarkson has gained millions of followers since winning Season 1 of American Idol thanks to her incredible voice, but also because the pop singer has always been candid with her fans and in her writing.
Over the years, Clarkson has spoken publicly about the depression caused by her father’s absences following her parent’s divorce. She even recorded the 2004 song Because of You about the impact her father’s decisions made on her as an adult.
Now Clarkson is getting real with listeners again, this time releasing what she calls on her Facebook page ‘the happy ending to Because of You‘.
Piece By Piece is the third single and title track off Clarkson’s seventh album and delivers some of the rawest and most emotional lyrics we’ve ever heard from Kelly.
In the new video, just released today, Clarkson is joined by other women and their children, even her own 17-month-old daughter River Rose, in the touching black and white clip.
Clarkson says she wrote the song as a love letter to her husband Brandon Blackstock, saying “So many of us had to grow up without parents to model a healthy relationship for us, so we often go into dysfunctional relationships because it is what is familiar.” Kelly goes on to say that it’s important for people to not settle in relationships and instead find someone who knows they are worthy of love.
