Lady Gaga Reveals New Album Name And Cover

It’s been less than a week since Lady Gaga returned to the charts with her new single “Perfect Illusion,” a piece created by Gaga along with producers Mark Ronson, Kevin Parker and Bloodpop. The multi-talented Gaga has been tight-lipped about her upcoming album, with “Perfect Illusion” acting as the first concrete piece of evidence of an upcoming album.

Now Gaga is sharing more information on her fifth solo disc, including the title and cover. Previously believed to be LG5, Gaga’s upcoming record will actually be titled Joanne after Gaga’s late aunt. Gaga, real name Stefanie Joanne Angelina Germanotta, was named after her aunt, as was Gaga’s parents’ restaurant, Joanne Trattoria.

Gaga posted the cover art for Joanne on her Twitter account today, showing the singer photographed in a profile view while wearing a soft pink wide-brimmed  hat.

Mother Monster continued her day of sharing by calling into Beats 1 Radio to speak with host Zane Lowe about Joanne, revealing the release date of October 21, not early 2017 as previously reported.

When Gaga dropped “Perfect Illusion” last Friday she also announced that her new album would feature a duet with Florence Welch. In today’s interview, Gaga expanded on her list of contributors for Joanne, including Father John Misty, Beck, Josh Homme and songwriter Hillary Lindsey, who’s best known for writing the Grammy winning country-crossover hit “Girl Crush” with Little Big Town. Gaga also released four track titles, including “John Wayne,” “Sinner’s Prayer,” “Ayo,” and “Joanne.”

On the title track, Gaga said, “For me, it’s like the real true heart and soul of the record. I remember when Mark and I wrote it. We wrote that song and the decision ultimately to name the album Joanne was in tribute to my father’s sister who died when she was 19.”

“The death of her in his family and his life left a scar and wound that never healed,” said Gaga. “It’s the experiences of our families and our challenges and our toughness that make us who we are.”

Gaga revealed there will tentatively be 11 new tracks on Joanne, with an additional three on the deluxe edition. The packaging will include notes between Gaga’s father and his late sister, as well as pictures of the family.

The Ruth Hogben-directed video for “Perfect Illusion” is set to drop ‘soon,’ featuring a raw performance from Gaga.
