Lady Gaga Does A Desert Dance In ‘Perfect Illusion’ Video

Lady Gaga is officially back on the charts with her new single “Perfect Illusion,” which has now been given a brand new music video. Just released, Gaga’s latest video is possibly her most simple visual yet, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t packing a huge punch.

In “Perfect Illusion,” Gaga travels to the desert for a vision quest and dances out the demons of a failed relationship—ditching her usual over-the-top costumes for jean shorts, a black tee and a simple ponytail. The pop singer stuns in her understated look, letting her almost possessed performance send the biggest message—you don’t want to break up with Gaga.

Mother Monster stuns in this Joshua Tree-like experience, bringing an energy that comes through the screen, demanding viewers join her for the cathartic experience. Showing off her innate showmanship, Gaga performs alone amidst the cactus and sand, and commands the middle of a rave, with the two shots trading places throughout the video. “Perfect Illusion” producers Mark Ronson, Kevin Parker and Bloodpop all appear in the video, along with a crowd of frantic dancers.

The final shot is Gaga collapsing alone in the desert, causing the viewer to wonder if the giant rave filled with people was Gaga’s desert mirage, or maybe even… an illusion.

“Perfect Illusion” was directed by Andrea Gelardin and Ruth Hogben and debuted last night after the season premiere of Scream Queens. It’s already earned more than 1.1 million views on YouTube.

In addition to the new video, Gaga has also dropped a number of facts about her upcoming fifth solo album. Joanne, which is slated to hit stores and services on October 21, will feature appearances from Florence Welch, Josh Homme, Father John Misty, and Beck. The album will include 11 new tracks, with the deluxe edition possibly featuring three more.
