The Weeknd’s lead single “Starboy” from his upcoming third studio album of the same name has been just about everywhere since it was released in September. The Toronto native has performed on SNL, the MTV EMAs and most recently, the American Music Awards, all before the album has even been released.
As with any chart topping track, the cover versions have started rolling in and today’s spin is courtesy of Panic! At The Disco. The theatrical pop rockers took on “Starboy” during their recent visit to the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge and nailed the track, with lead singer Brandon Urie up to the task of tackling The Weeknd’s coined falsetto.
Known for their impressive covers of Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears and Queen, Panice! At The Disco added guitar riffs and piano, making The Weeknd’s track with Daft Punk their own while still honouring the original version.
Speaking of The Weeknd, the singer has been teasing an upcoming project titled ‘MANIA,’ directed by his frequent collaborator Grant Singer.
The Weeknd hasn’t released any details as to when and where fans can watch MANIA, but he did announce a number of pop up shops hitting Toronto, Tokyo, Melbourne and Berlin on Friday, the same day his third studio album drops and he takes the stage at the inaugural iHeart Radio Canada Jingle Ball.
