Four-time Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais didn’t hold any punches back during his hosting duties throughout tonight’s 73rd Annual Golden Globes Awards. Frankly, we expected nothing less from the British comedian.
No celebrity was safe, from cheating scandals to sex scandals, politics to popular friends, and everything in between.
While we were surprised that Gervais didn’t take his usual jab at friend and The Office star Steve Carell, the former Michael Scott seemed to be the only A-lister to not feel the wrath of Ricky. Here are some of our favourite Ricky-isms from the evening.
On the likelihood of celebs skipping the Golden Globes: “As if film stars will stay away from the chance of winning a Golden Globe. Especially if their film company has already paid for it.”
On Jennifer Lawrence’s wage inequality essay: “How the hell can a 25 year old get by on $52 million a year.”
On the downer part of the evening: “The Golden Globes doesn’t have an ‘In Memorium’ section to get you all depressed. Instead, we let the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press say a few words.”
On Matt and Ben: “He’s also the only person who Ben Affleck hasn’t been unfaithful to.”
On Lawmer. Or is it Schumence?: “It’s like they’ve never had a friend before.”
On the running time: “This show is way too long. It should be half an hour.”
On Ride Along 2: “When Brad and Angelina see our next two adorable little presenters, they’re going to want to adopt them.”
On his closing remarks: “From myself and Mel Gibson, ‘Shalom’.”
