The Cast Of ‘We Are Your Friends’ Talk EDM, Preconceived Notions And Bar Mitzvahs

Tue, September, 1 by

We Are Your Friends is a new film starring Zac Efron and Emily Ratajkowski that explores the world of EDM and electronic music, a genre that often gets wrongly criticized for being lazy because of its large inclusion of digital equipment. But when our very own Tyrone “T-Rex” Edwards sat down with Efron, Ratajkowski and director Max Joseph, they explained that the movie will hopefully help correct those common misconceptions.

“I think a lot of people come to electronic music or EDM with a lot of preconceived notions,” Joseph says. “That either it’s easy or these guys are pressing buttons and getting paid kajillions of dollars, but great music is great music and the art that goes into it is just like the art that goes into a great book or a great film, and we want to show how complex it is.”

Star Zac Efron learned how to DJ like a pro for the film and even admits that he’s gotten quite good at it now. Tyrone then asks if he can perhaps book him for a gig, something apparently many people have asked Efron lately, but why do any regular party when you can do, say, a bar mitzvah? Watch the full video below to see what we’re talking about!

We Are Your Friends is in theatres now.
