Listen To The Chainsmokers New Single ‘The One’

If The Chainsmokers meteoric rise to becoming some of the biggest artists in the world isn’t impressive enough, the fact that they’ve achieved this feat without ever releasing an album should help.

A little over a week away from their debut album’s official release, The Chainsmokers have now dropped the third single from what will be titled Memories…Do Not Open. Shifting gears, the new ballad has a sombre tone, something we’re used to hearing with the duo’s lyrics, but not their music. The melancholy track uses piano and haunting vocals to set the mood for the equally introspective lyrics, with singer Alex Taggart singing, “Got caught up in my own selfishness. It won’t let me be a part of this.”

It looks like The Chainsmokers are on their way to growing up.

The duo, made up of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall, dropped their debut EP in 2015, which featured five tracks, including their single “Roses” features Rozes. While up to that point the band had achieved their greatest success with the so-annoying-it’s-catchy “Selfie,” it wasn’t until a year later in 2016 that they would release a song that you literally couldn’t go anywhere without hearing.

Teaming up with singer Halsey, The Chainsmokers made chart history with “Closer,” remaining on the top of the Billboard Chart for 12 consecutive weeks. The little song that could scored The Chainsmokers and Halsey performance slots at every major award show in 2016 and earned the threesome a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

“Closer” also helped The Chainsmokers score some big names for their upcoming full length debut album, which is set to be released on April 7. The duo have already dropped the album’s lead single with the “Closer” part two track “Paris,” keeping their formulaic approached to EDM/pop crossover hits. But The Chainsmokers showed they still have some new tricks up their sleeves, making a surprise appearance and debuting their second single “Something Just Like That” with Coldplay at the 2017 Brit Awards.

Having their biggest hits with guest vocalists, The Chainsmokers have invited a genre-defying list of artists into the studio for Memories…Do Not Open. In addition to Coldplay, the new album features Jhene Aiko, Florida Georgia Line, Louane, and Emily Warren, who appears on two of the album’s tracks.
