Twitter was a hot spot for heated exchanges this week, but one of the most amusing “beefs” to come out of this was the one between rapper (and Nicki Minaj’s boyfriend), Meek Mill and Toronto Councillor Norm Kelly.
Let’s rewind and explain this a little bit: earlier this week, Meek called out Drake for using ghostwriters prompting a one-sided Twitter war (Drake has yet to formally respond). Noted Drake supporter, Kelly, saw Meek’s tweets, though, and decided to jokingly respond back: “You’re no longer welcome in Toronto, @MeekMill.” Little did Kelly know that this would spark a back-and-forth exchange between the two.
We wanted to find out what was really going on here so we interviewed Norm Kelly to get some answers.
“Drake is part of the re-branding of the city of Toronto […] and here’s this guy, lobbing a grenade at him,” Kelly tells Much. “I thought, ‘Hey, this guy is a proud Torontonian and I think it’s important to know, especially a week before you’re performing in his city that you might not be welcome here, so I innocently tweeted that out to him.”
Will Kelly be attending Meek’s show in Toronto, or OVO Fest, to show his love for Drizzy then? “No, I’m gonna be on holidays at that time,” Kelly reveals. “I regret that I didn’t have a chance to run through the Six and discuss his woes.”
