Troye Sivan Shares New Song ‘Youth’ And Reveals His Fears Over Coming Out

Youth Main

To say that singer Troye Sivan has had a great 2015 would be putting it lightly. After releasing his critically acclaimed video trilogy Blue Neighborhood, Sivan has scored legions of fans outside his native South Africa, including some famous names.

Like, the most famous.

Sivan’s debut LP Blue Neighborhood is set to be released on December 4, and the young singer has just announced his North American tour, which includes three Canadian dates. But that doesn’t mean the 20-year-old hasn’t already been hitting the pavement to promote his new music.

While playing a recent gig in Seattle, Sivan shot the new lyric video for his song Youth. Showing the frenzy surrounding the newcomer, the video features a concert hall full of fans singing while Sivan is in a state of shock at the end of the show thanks to the incredible response.

Sivan has also released a teaser to his Blue Neighborhood collaboration Heaven with singer Betty Who. Not much of the duet can be heard in the trailer, with the focus instead on an incredible monologue delivered by Sivan detailing his process of coming out.

In the short clip, Sivan explains that the hardest person to come out to was himself, saying that he had to ask ‘terrifying’ questions, like would he be able to have a family and does God now hate him? “Eventually I got to the point where I thought, if there is a heaven, but I can’t be myself up there, then maybe I don’t want heaven,” says Sivan in the moving and thoughtful trailer.

An incredibly talented pop singer with emotionally raw lyrics and the courage to use his platform to give a voice to those who have been silenced? We’ve been waiting for you, Troye.
