After teasing its release on Instagram on Sunday, many of us waited in anticipation for the official video for Hotline Bling and it did not disappoint.
The video, in true OVO fashion, was released exactly at 6 p.m. PST, opens with a call centre run full of hotline bling operators. Cut to the now-iconic HOTLINE BLING text, and there’s Drake, standing in a tiny room made exclusively for cha-cha-ing. The set changes colours going from yellow to green to blue to fuschia. It’s hypnotizing, but not as hypnotizing as Drizzy’s confusing borderline dorky dance moves.
Later in the video, he’s joined by Toronto choreographer Tanisha Scott who you might remember from the Sean Paul’s We Be Burning video back in 2005.
You can check out both Tanisha and Drake’s moves in the video below.
The song, which dropped on SoundCloud around the same time as the two Meek Mill diss tracks Charged Up and Back to Back, ended up being a surprise hit. It currently sits at number two on the Billboard charts, the closest Drake’s come to having a number one.
Last week, Drake reached out to fans saying if he gets his first number one during the month of October, it would be the biggest moment of his career to date.
I spend my life trying to make waves for the city I am from. No accolades really matter to me other than the fact that I have never had a billboard number one. If I get my first number one during the month of October it will be the biggest moment of my career to date (in my mind) and if you are looking for me on that particular evening I will be passed out in the water slide that connects to our pool. I love you and thank you for these memories. I always love the moment right before it happens more than when it actually happens. So thank you…even if it doesn’t.
