Last night we celebrated the best in Canadian music at the 2016 JUNO Awards while our neighbours to the south were handing out awards to country music’s finest. The Academy of Country Music Awards took over the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with pop star Katy Perry managing to sneak her way in to perform in a show-stopping duet with Dolly Parton.
Parton received the Tex Ritter Award for her TV series Coat of Many Colours, with Perry presenting the award and calling Parton her personal hero, saying “This means the world to me. And so do you.”
To honour the country legend, Perry and Parton then paired up for a three song medley, performing Jolene, 9 To 5 and Coat of Many Colours.
Katy was dressed by longtime friend Jeremy Scott, who also walked the red carpet with Perry. The pop star’s outfit was a mix of 1970s Dolly with Jessie from Toy Story aka we loved it.
This isn’t the first time Perry has displayed her love of country music. The Firework singer has also performed Parton’s hit Jolene with country music newcomer Kacey Musgraves, who also appeared on stage with the pop star last night.
