Years & Years Release ‘Meteorite’ For ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’

Years & Years have debuted their new track, “Meteorite”—an upbeat new pop and disco-inspired track that will appear in Friday’s Bridget Jones sequel, Bridget Jones’s Baby.

The band expressed their excitement to be part of the Bridget Jones film over Twitter.

“If there’s anyone I’d like to be it’s Bridget—a wanton sex goddess with a very bad man between her thighs,” frontman Olly Alexander said in a press release.

Bridget Jones’s Baby, starring Renée Zellweger, takes us back into the life of Bridget, everyone’s favourite British hot mess as she enters her 40s. Now a publishing exec, she’s single and enjoying the freedom—until she finds out she’s pregnant.

“Meteorite” acts as the band’s first release in over a year, following the success of their debut album Communion and its accompanying two-and-half year-long tour, which they finished at Bestival this past weekend.

Back in May, Alexander expressed that he and his bandmates had already started on album number two.

“I’ve started writing songs,” he said. “I don’t know how it’s going to sound because I’m just getting material together and ideas.”

“The first album did so much more than I actually ever imagined it would do. I feel like we achieved so many things I always wanted to achieve,” he said of Communion. “We were hyped and then it felt like we had to deliver. Then it came out and it had some success and that was a crazy experience. Now I sort of feel like, “Well, whatever happens next, it’s cool,” because there’s less pressure in a way.

The Bridget Jones’s Baby soundtrack also includes Communion’s “King” and other songs by other English talent including  Ellie Goulding, Ed Sheeran and Lily Allen.
