Zedd Doesn’t Want To Be Confined To His EDM Sound

Wed, September, 2 by

German DJ/producer Zedd may be well known for his dance-pop anthems in recent years, but EDM is not his only genre of expertise. In fact, before he became famous for hits like Clarity (featuring Foxes) and Break Free (featuring Ariana Grande), he was cutting his teeth performing classical and metal music. So don’t be surprised if Zedd switches it up again in the future.

“The only way to be a true musician is to do whatever you want,” Zedd tells us in an exclusive interview. “And technically, I’ve been making electronic music for the smallest amount of time in my life […] I’m still new to EDM, it’s why it’s so important that people don’t put me in the EDM box because maybe I’ll want to make an entire acoustic album next time,”

“I wanna make sure people know it’s me; I’m not changing for anyone but me.”

Zedd’s lengthy list of influences also reflects his diverse taste in music, with an emphasis on ’70s rock bands like King Crimson and Queen. “I remember when I kind of got stuck on a song, I would always listen to Queen ’cause it always inspires me.”
