5 Seconds of Summer have just kicked off the North America leg of their latest tour, Rock Out With Your Socks Out. The four Aussies have been making their way around the globe, playing 43 stadium shows in Australia, New Zealand and Europe and now crossing the pond for more gigs.
A lot goes in to playing stadium venues and the in this behind-the-scenes look at their tour, 5 Seconds of Summer agree that things have changed since their days of playing clubs. “You really need to learn how to make people at the back feel like they’re in the front row,” says member Calum Hood. “All your actions kinda need to be bigger.”
The guys are enjoying their time on the road, but admit it’s not always easy. “Tour life is fun,” says Luke Hemmings, adding, “It can be mentally and physically challenging.”
This new special look at the Rock Out With Your Socks Out Tour has the guys introducing their crew, including their Stage Manager Derek Flanagan, who they met while he was managing One Direction. That’s a lot of screaming girls in one lifetime.
While some artists incorporate flashy stages and elaborate costume changes, the guys in 5SOS like to keep things simple. Says Ashton Irwin, “We just want people to sing and dance and scream and have a good time. I don’t think it needs to be any more complicated than that.”
