This Thursday marks the first time The Streamys are set to air live on Much and Much.com. In its fifth year, The Streamys celebrates the best, brightest, most viewed and most liked in digital media — and we like that!
The star-studded event will feature performances from A Great Big World featuring Futuristic, OMI, Future, Sir Mix-A-Lot and Hailee Steinfeld, as well as appearances by Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell, Natasha Bedingfield, Ciara, Frankie Grande, Jenna Marbles, Miranda Sings, and Awkward.‘s Jillian Rose Reed.
The night’s events will be hosted by YouTube celebrities Grace Helbig and Tyler Oakley, two people who are proof that spending too much time in front of your computer can work out really, really well.
Today we’re shining the spotlight on host Tyler Oakley, who has accomplished so much since uploading his first YouTube video in in 2007. But just in case you haven’t been keeping up with his YouTube feed, here are five things you need to know about one of the internet’s most beloved personalities.

1. He’s an advocate for the LGBT community.
Oakley has been vocal about his support towards the LGBT community for years. He interned with the The Trevor Project in 2009 and later won Trevor Youth Innovator Award in 2014. Since starting with the organization, he has helped raise over $5 million to support LGBT youth.
2. He’s got some famous friends.
Oakley has rubbed shoulders with some of today’s biggest celebs, from One Direction to Darren Criss. He’s even met President Obama and made an educational video with the first lady, Michelle Obama. Consider us impressed.
3. His first YouTube video was supposed to be for his friends. 300,000 views later…
Tyler is one of the most followed personalities in the world. He has 5 million Instagram followers, 4.62 million Twitter followers, 2.7 million Facebook likes and over 1 million YouTube subscribers. People like Tyler. They really like him.
4. He’s a big supporter of the YouTube community.
A quick look at Tyler’s YouTube page or any of his social media feeds reveals that he’s a man who loves to collaborate. Whether it’s voice acting on a web series or forcing fellow YouTuber Miranda Sings to face her fear of balloons, one of Tyler’s main goals is the help inspire others and promote people finding their own voice.
5. He’s about to be a published author!
Binge is Oakley’s upcoming book comprised of his own personal essays on everything from fighting at the Cheesecake Factory to his time at The White House. The new book is set to be released October 16.
