5 Seconds Of Summer And The Chainsmokers Collabed And We’re Here For It

5 Seconds of Summer and The Chainsmokers have a question for you: Who do you love?

The question is also the title of their new joint single that dropped this morning, following the announcement made by the EDM hitmakers on Tuesday. Listen to the track below.

The buzz started on Monday after the Aussie rockers tweeted a cryptic video that led fans to believe something had to be going on. The teaser was set in a distorted, pink-tinted desert and featured band member Ashton Irwin asking their newfound Alexa assistant to follow The Chainsmokers on Amazon Music. While 5SOS’s clip was psychedelic and dramatic, The Chainsmokers shared a more laidback video from the studio, instructing Alexa to return the love and follow 5SOS.

Anticipation heightened on Tuesday morning as the 5SOS account posted a clip of Luke Hemmings singing what turned out to be the song’s catchy chorus, along with a link to officially pre-save “Who Do You Love.”

“Who Do You Love” is reminiscent of the old-school Chainsmokers sound, with the duo writing on Instagram that they believe it could represent a change in “the entire way we approach music and our lives.” 5SOS gives the song a perfect pop-punk flair as they question the shady actions of a lover.

Irwin echoed The Chainsmokers’ passion for the new track on Twitter, writing, “It’s very important to me that we remain diverse in the songs we release and the boundaries that we can break for a modern rock band. When [w]e first heard the chorus of ‘Who Do You Love’ we believed it was our chance to collaborate in a way we hadn’t before.”

This is 5 Seconds of Summer’s first time collaborating with a DJ/producer powerhouse, while The Chainsmokers are no strangers to partnering with pop performers. Their 2018 hit “This Feeling,” featuring country-pop songstress Kelsea Ballerini, remains a radio staple and is going strong on the Billboard Hot 100. All three artists met at a Jingle Ball event in December—perhaps this was the true start of it all?

There’s no word when the official 5SOS x Chainsmokers music video will premiere, but if the teasers are any indication it’s going to be epic.
