The First Trailer For Lady Gaga And Bradley Cooper’s ‘A Star Is Born’ Is Finally Here

Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper, Dave Chapelle

It’s literally been years in the making, but today we’re finally getting our first full-sized trailer for the Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga remake of A Star Is Born. Judging by the chemistry between the pair in the first look at the film, it was well worth the wait.

Directed and co-written by Cooper, the Oscar nominee plays Jackson Maine, a gravelled-voice country singer who is battling addiction offstage. When he discovers struggling artist Ally, played by Lady Gaga, he suddenly finds his musical purpose once again. The pair embark on a musical and romantic relationship, but soon find that the pressures of both can be too much to handle.

Both Cooper and Gaga sing in the new trailer, with the film featuring an original soundtrack that includes songs written by Gaga along with Cooper, Lukas Nelson, Jason Isbell, and Mark Ronson. All tracks were recorded live for the film, so if you were lucky enough to see Mother Monster at Coachella in 2017, you may have heard a sneak peek of what’s to come, with some of the film’s scenes shot at the annual music fest.

The film has undergone a number of false starts over the past decade. Originally made in 1937, the film was remade again in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason, and again in 1976 with Kris Kristofferson and Barbara Streisand. In 2011, Clint Eastwood signed on to direct Beyoncé, who exited the film after the birth of her first child, Blue Ivy. Esperanza Spalding was rumoured to take on the female lead role, with Cooper on board for the male lead. Eventually, Lady Gaga signed on in 2016, and now we’re just a few months away from finally seeing the film seven years in the making. Or 81 years, if we’re counting back from the original.

Dave Chapelle and Sam Elliott also appear in the trailer, with Andrew Dice Clay starring in the film as well. A Star Is Born is set to hit theatres on October 5.
