Canadian trailblazers A Tribe Called Red are continuing to forge their own path in music. The electronic band, comprised of DJ’s Bear Witness, DJ NDN and 2oolman, have combined dance music and elements of First Nation music to win critical acclaim and legions of fans since dropping their debut self-album in 2012.
The JUNO Award winners just uploaded their latest track, “R.E.D.,” featuring Canadian rapper Narcy, drum group Black Bear, and rapper Yasiin Bey, better known by his first stage name, Mos Def. With their brand new song, the band is continuing to work with new artists and evolve their groundbreaking sound.
The new single is part of their upcoming third studio album, We Are The Halluci Nation. Part of the track was first heard in A Tribe Called Red’s docu-short, The Manawan Sessions, which follows the band as they travel to Manawan, Quebec to record with Black Bear, showing how the two groups broke down their writing process to come together and create a new sound.
Earlier this summer, the trio released “Stadium Pow Wow,” an exhilarating single from their EP of the same name. The trio teamed up once again with Quebec drum group Black Bear to create the high energy lightning bolt of a song. The instrumental track is set to a stunning music video showcasing traditional dancing and a group of young women training to become boxers.
We Are The Halluci Nation is set to be released September 16.
