If you weren’t sure exactly how famous Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine is, his band’s new video will remind you. Teaming up with rapper Future, Maroon 5 debuted their new single “Cold” on Tuesday and dropped the video hours ago, with Levine starring in the trippy cautionary tale of why you should always bring your own drinks to a party.
The video begins and ends with prolonged acting scenes—first with Levine on his way home to supermodel wife Behati Prinsloo. En route, Adam gets a call that Future wants him to stop by his party to hear the track “Cold,” with Levine begrudgingly agreeing to attend yet another A-lister event. Once at the party, Levine is slipped what we’re assuming is acid in his drink, although we don’t know why. Does the bartender work for TMZ and is looking for some damning footage of the singer? If that’s the case, the multiple threesomes Levine gets *this* close to engaging in should earn a hefty price tag.
Levine eventually sobers up long enough to have a conversation with Future, who then turns into a teddy bear. This may have a deeper message about the softer side of the rapper, or it’s just what happens when you’re on acid. Levine eventually fulfills his wife’s ‘shocking’ request to pick up milk and then summarizes the night for her while she’s obviously trying to get some sleep. You know when people want to tell you about their dream and it’s like, ugh, can we not? Apparently the same thing goes for acid trips.
Maroon 5 teamed up with Vivoom to give fans the opportunity to insert themselves in the video for “Cold.” Fans can click here to add their image to 15 seconds of the new video, with the most viewed cameos earning that fan the chance to meet the band.
Maroon 5 performed “Cold” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this week, with Levine sitting down with DeGeneres to give very little information on the new album. It’s coming, it doesn’t have a name, but it will include the band’s 2016 single “Don’t Wanna Know” with Kendrick Lamar. So, get excited?
