Kicking off the 2016 JUNO Awards may seem like a daunting task, but when you’ve had the kind of year Alessia Cara has, it’s just another incredible step towards superstardom.
The Brampton, ON teen has been touring across Canada and the US in support of her debut album Know-It-All, with her singles Here and Wild Things burning up the charts across North America. Cara’s breakout 2015 also included a special guest spot on Taylor Swift’s 1989 Tour when it stopped in Tampa, Florida. In addition to Swift, Alessia’s famous list of fans extends to include her fellow Canadians Drake and Shawn Mendes.
Tonight, all eyes were on the 19-year-old when she opened the 2016 JUNO Awards at the Calgary Scotiabank Saddledome with an incredible double performance.
Kicking things off with a bluesy, rocked-out version of Here, Cara’s stage was complete with frozen party-goers and four pink walls in honour of her 2015 EP. Wearing a fitted black tux, Alessia switched things up with her latest single Wild Things, showing off her incredible vocals while backed by an eight-person drum line.
