Alessia Cara Drops New Single ‘Ready’ And Announces Upcoming EP

Are you “Ready” to listen to Alessia Cara’s new single? She’s not so sure you are.

Our Toronto gal shared on Thursday that she would be dropping new music this summer, with the first single coming out Monday.

“Caught the writing bug out of the blue and made an EP. It’s called This Summer. I’ll be releasing a new track every couple of weeks until its release.”

“Ready” is the perfect summer jam, floating somewhere between the reggae and pop genres. It’s lowkey and chill, a nice change from Cara’s typical melancholic R&B.

Lyrics like, “You got me into this mess, who’s gonna get me out?” and “I wanna climb into your mind and turn on all the lights / Read all your secrets, see if you wonder about mine,” help tell the story of being in too deep for a someone who may not feel the same way. Way too relatable for many of us unfortunately.

The song was co-written and co-produced by Jon Levine, a Canadian songwriter and producer, who has worked with the likes of Dua Lipa, Rachel Platten, Andy Grammer, and many more.

Apart from this release, 2019 saw Cara join together with Scott Helman on a Whitney Houston cover, collab with Alec Benjamin on “Let Me Down Slowly,” and open for Shawn Mendes on tour. You can catch the Grammy-winning singer on tour with Mendes in Ottawa August 18, Montreal August 20 and 21, and Toronto September 6. Get your tix here.

“Ready” is the first single off of Cara’s second EP This Summer, which will be out September 6.
