Alicia Keys Releases Exciting New Single ‘In Common’

Alicia Keys In Common

Singer/songwriter Alicia Keys has enjoyed many phases over her impressive career. The Grammy winner broke into the music scene in 2001 with her debut album Songs In A Minor and the genre defying track “Fallin.” She scored major radio play with her hits “How Come You Don’t Call Me,” “A Woman’s Worth,” and of course her huge 2009 hit “Empire State of Mind” with Jay Z.

For the past few years, Keys’ hits have begun veering more towards the adult contemporary sound, with inspirational tracks like “Girl On Fire” and “We Are Here” acting as her singles. But now it appears the classically trained piano playing teenager from Hell’s Kitchen is going back to the beginning and giving fans a sound unlike anything they’ve heard before.

Just released today, Keys’ latest single “In Common” is a seductive and exciting track, fused with African and Latin influences. “In Common” maintains a steady anticipation throughout, with Key’s visual lyrics drawing a picture of less complicated times, singing, “We used to talk until midnight/All those days that you stayed at my house/We were just passing the time/When we were young and we ain’t had no vows.”

The new song will likely act as the first single off Alicia Key’s sixth studio album, which is set to drop sometime this year.

She’s SNL’s musical guest this week and if you weren’t planning on tuning in this Saturday, one spin of “In Common” will have your setting your PVR. It’s time to get excited for the return of Ms. Keys.
