PLL fans, rejoice! Just three short months after Spencer, Emily, Aria, Hanna and Alison graced our TV screens together for (what we thought was) the last time, PLL showrunner I. Marlene King has announced that a Pretty Little Liars spinoff series is in the works.
The Perfectionists, based on a book series written by PLL author slash mastermind Sara Shepard, will centre on reformed mean girl Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) and manipulative doll shop owner Mona Vanderwaal (Janel Parrish). Very little about the series has been revealed other than the fact that it’ll be set in Beacon Heights, a seemingly innocent town that gets turned upside down after one of its residents is murdered. Sound familiar?
We’re not exactly sure what this means for the other Liars, especially Emily (Shay Mitchell) who’s supposedly living and raising two twin girls with Alison. And what of Mona herself, who was last seen rocking a chic black beret in France and being as devious as ever?
But Shepard’s original book series doesn’t actually feature Alison, Mona, or any of the other Rosewood ladies we know and love. In fact, the series follows a group of five entirely different women named Ava, Caitlin, Mackenzie, Julie, and Parker. Which means that King and Shepard’s inclusion of Alison and Mona probably means that they’re willing to take some other creative liberties with the show. So…PLL reunion, anyone?
In 2013 King helmed another Pretty Little Liars spinoff, Ravenswood, which unfortunately only lasted ten episodes. But with PLL off the air for good, we think The Perfectionists will give fans of the original series a little something to fill the void.
And according to Piertese, who’s currently killing it on Dancing with the Stars, filming for The Perfectionists is set to start in January. So do what any good Liar would do and keep your eyes and ears open for more news until then.
