Are One Direction Throwing Shade With New Single ‘Perfect’?

Main Perfect

As promised earlier this week on their Twitter account, One Direction have released their second single from Made In The A.M. with Perfect and things are getting a bit shady.

A team of songwriters penned the track alongside Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles, with the latter 1D member making some waves. Many fans are speculating that the lyrics are pointing towards Styles’ famous ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift. Perhaps you’ve heard of her?

Most notably, the lyrics “And if you like midnight driving with the windows down / And if you like going places we can’t even pronounce” and “But if you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms / And if you like having secret little rendezvous” seem to be pointing to Swift. More specifically, Perfect looks to be pointing to Swift’s songs I Knew You Were Trouble (“Flew me to places I’d never been”), Out of the Woods (“Remember when you hit the brakes too soon?”) and I Know Places (“Baby, I know places we won’t be found / And they’ll be chasing their tails tryin’ to track us down”).

Styles finishes the song by singing “And if you’re looking for someone to write your breakup songs about / Baby, I’m perfect / Baby, we’re perfect.” Well, no one can accuse the British singer of not being self-aware.

Shade-throwing aside, the new song is another catchy pop track from the foursome that has us sadly counting down the days until the band’s March hiatus. Until then, we’ll just have to enjoy the fab four as much as we can.

The band also released the tracklist for Made In The A.M. this week, which includes 17 new songs and a bonus track for those who pre-order. There’s alllllways a bonus track.
