Ariana Grande Returns With Trippy Video For ‘No Tears Left To Cry’

It’s undoubtedly been an emotional road back to the recording studio for Ariana Grande, but the pop singer has now made her triumphant return with “No Tears Left To Cry” and hasn’t missed a beat.

Following the tragic bombing at her Manchester concert on May 22, 2017 that claimed the lives of 22 people, Grande took some time off touring before returning to Manchester only two weeks later in June for a charity event. The singer finished the remaining dates of her Dangerous Woman Tour before retreating for some much-needed time to grieve, going silent on her social media accounts in the following months. Grande reemerged this past March at the March for Our Lives Rally and began promoting her comeback single “No Tears Left To Cry” shortly after.

Releasing teaser videos on her Instagram this week, Grande’s new single appeared to be a sombre ballad, something that was to be expected after the singer’s tragic year. But dropping the full song and video on Thursday night, Grande surprised fans and gave them a song to dance to, showing off her trademark powerhouse vocals and delivering an instant hit.

Never one to shy away from featuring a big name hip hop artist on her tracks, including past collaborators Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea, Big Sean, and boyfriend Mac Miller, Grande smartly makes her comeback single a solo effort, taking on an almost-rap sequence in the track and proving that she alone can handle a huge song.

Directed by Dave Meyers (Pink, Katy Perry, Britney Spears), the sci-fi video is a mind-bending trip into a futuristic society. Gravity is toyed with throughout the video, with Grande showing off her bleached hair and walking on walls and ceilings, dancing on floating stairs, and performing on top of buildings. Featuring an early 2000s vibe both in the song and video, “No Tears Left To Cry” is Grande at her best. It’s good to have her back.

Grande has yet to confirm when she plans on releasing her fourth studio album, but it’s likely that “No Tears Left To Cry” will act as the lead single.
