Ariana Grande Drops ‘The Light Is Coming’ Featuring Nicki Minaj, Announces Album Release Date

Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj have teamed up once again for another major pop music duet.

Grande has been teasing “The Light Is Coming” featuring Minaj for the past few weeks and has now released the dance party of a track; a bouncy groove with almost surreal vocals. Listen to the new song below.

Co-written and produced by Pharrell, “The Light Is Coming” is a snappy, upbeat song with quick drums and jittery synths that flow into a dynamic vocal performance from Grande. The track borrows the vibe of N.E.R.D.’s “Lemon,” seeing Minaj open the track with a barrage of punchlines before Grande takes over to sing some sassier that normal lyrics: “Ah, gonna break that shit down / You don’t wait until they wait another round / Ah, guess you’re way above it now / And that’s your way to love it now.”

Grande and Minaj have collaborated numerous times before, most recently on Minaj’s latest track “Bed,” which is expected to appear on the rapper’s upcoming album Queen. Minaj and Grande first collaborated on “Get On Your Knees,” off Minaj’s 2014 album The Pinkprint. That same year the two joined Jessie J. for the hit track “Bang Bang” and later united in 2016 for “Side to Side” off Grande’s Dangerous Woman.

Grande premiered “The Light Is Coming” earlier this month during her set at Wango Tango in California. This is the second single off the 24-year-old’s highly anticipated fourth studio album Sweetener—a title inspired by finding things that make life sweeter—following the previously released lead track “No Tears Left To Cry” which arrived this past April. Some of the tracklisting for the new album also includes “REM,” “God Is A Woman,” and “Raindrops,” which is the album’s intro.

Along with the new single, Grande officially set the release date for Sweetener, announcing that the album will arrive August 17.
