Last month, Ariana Grande released a 20-second teaser of “The Light Is Coming,” her latest duet with friend and collaborator, rapper Nicki Minaj.
Now, the pop star has debuted the track live during her set at Los Angeles’ iHeartRadio Wango Tango this past Saturday. Check out her performance below.
The 24-year-old pop artist told the California crowd, “So, I’m putting out a new album in August… And on the 20th you get a new song called ‘The Light Is Coming’ which features my big sister Nicki Minaj, and we wanted to give you a little preview of it tonight.” Although Minaj wasn’t at Wango Tango, Grande went ahead an unveiled the rapper’s verse with the full track. You can watch iHeartRadio Wango Tango in full below.
“The Light Is Coming” is set to be Grande’s second single off her highly anticipated fourth studio album Sweetener—a title inspired by finding things that make life sweeter. The new Pharrell-assisted album is set to drop August 20 with Grande previously revealing to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that she would be doing something special on the 20th of each month leading up to the release. On May 20, Grande returned to the award show circuit and delivered an emotional performance at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards. On June 20, pre-orders for the new album kick off.
In a recent interview with Time, Grande detailed how Sweetener aided in her healing process following the Manchester terror attack. “I was never as involved,” said Grande of co-writing the new album. “I felt more inclined to tap into my feelings because I was spending more time with them. I was talking about them more. I was in therapy more.”
Some of the tracklisting for the new album includes “REM,” “The Light Is Coming,” “God Is A Woman,” and “Raindrops,” which is the album’s intro. Grande also revealed that most of the song titles are hidden in the music video for her lead single “No Tears Left To Cry,” so in the meantime, prepare to re-watch the clip and do some sleuthing.
