Avril Lavigne Teases ‘Warrior,’ ‘Love Me Insane’ And ‘Bigger Wow’

Avril Lavigne

Avril Lavigne is just over a week away from releasing her sixth studio album Head Above Water and is giving fans a sneak peek into what to expect. Lavigne’s last album was her self-titled release in 2013, but five years and one near-death experience with Lyme disease later, Avril is back with some of her most raw and personal work to date.

Set to be released on February 15, Lavigne has already dropped the soaring and inspiring title track (including a Game of Thrones-esque video), as well as the sexy retro single “Tell Me It’s Over.” Now the Canadian singer is once again giving fans a sneak peek into her new sound by teasing three songs from the upcoming album.

Sharing insights into the recording process, Lavigne posted snippets of the three tracks on her Instagram, while also providing a short back story on the inspiration for each song and where it was recorded.

“Warrior” follows in the same anthemic vein as “Head Above Water,” with Lavigne’s battle with Lyme disease providing ample writing material. Producing the track herself and teaming up with ex-husband and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, as well as Kroeger’s bandmate Chris Baseford, Lavigne says that “Warrior” was one of the first songs written for her new album. “This is one of the first songs I wrote for the album after ‘Head Above Water’. They are both about the health battle I continue to fight every day,” writes Lavigne. “I hope my songs can help you find strength if you need it…”

Returning once again to the retro vibe she crafted in “Tell Me It’s Over,” Lavigne’s “Love Me Insane” is a fun, poppy track that looks at the emotional roller coaster that comes with falling in love. “I wrote this song on the piano in my living room in Los Angeles – it’s about daring oneself to risk falling in love again,” writes Lavigne. “Embracing the opportunity of love. Love can be scary – but it’s better to have loved than have not at all.”

While most of Lavigne’s new album points towards a shift in the singer’s rock pop sound, “Bigger Wow” is a return to the Lavigne we know and love. The most radio-friendly song released so far from the new record, “Bigger Wow” could be the big hit to bring Avril back to her spot at the top of the charts that she knows so well. In a word, it’s a jam.

Lavigne says the new song is about living your best life. “If you’re not getting what you desire and deserve then go find yourself a Bigger Wow! Don’t settle for less than what your deserve.” Think of it as “The Best Damn Thing” for 2019.
