It seems the Backstreet Boys have heard our calls for a Spice Girls reunion.
The legendary boy band decided to switch things up during their Backstreet Boys Cruise earlier this week by channelling everyone’s favourite iconic British girl group—the Spice Girls. They dressed up in ’90s fashion and wigs, going by their new alter ego, the Spice Boys.
The group shared a picture of the event with the caption, “Celebrating all of the girl power that’s kept us going for 25 years,” paying tribute to their millions of female fans that still listen to the boy band’s music today.
Nick Carter was Baby Spice, Kevin Richardson was Posh, AJ McLean was Scary, Brian Littrell was Sporty, and Howie Dorough was Ginger, proving that even they know that sometimes, you just have to spice things up.
But the boys did more than just dress up as the Spice Girls. As shot by fans on the cruise—which sailed from Miami to Grand Turk from May 3-7—the Backstreet Boys also sang along karaoke style to Spice Girls hits “Say You’ll Be There” and “Wannabe.”
Meanwhile, there has been ongoing speculation of a Spice Girls reunion but nothing has been made official (yet).
The rumours started this past February when Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham shared the first photos of all five Spice Girls together in one place for the first time in six years. The last time all the Spice Girls were together was for a performance at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony, and fans have been asking for some sort of reunion ever since.
Whether or not there is actually a reunion tour/album/reality show/little bit of everything on the way, at least the Backstreet Boys are happy to step into the Spice Girls’ platform shoes while we wait.
