The Weeknd may have become one of the biggest artists in the world this year thanks to his MJ inspired pop hit Can’t Feel My Face, but the Toronto native hasn’t veered too far from his hometown. Teaming up with fellow Ontarian Belly, the two Canadian hip hop artists just released their trancy, R&B inspired down tempo track Might Not and we might not be able to stop listening to it.
The new single has the MMVA and Juno Award winners singing and rapping about their love of excess, with an accompanying trippy video that puts the viewer in the middle of a hard night of partying. As the only two men in the video, the duo make their way through a house party filled with beautiful women in lingerie. The Weeknd performs his verses while in an intoxicated daze on a bed that continually changes form, while Belly follows a bottle of pills into a bathtub that turns into a large body of water in a mind-bending scene.
The video is co-directed by Belly and Shomi Patwary, whose resume includes Lose Yourself by Major Lazer feat. Mosque & RDX, A$AP Rocky feat. Juicy J in Multiply, and Ty Dolla Sign feat. Charli XCX, and Tinashe in Drop That Kitty.
Might Not is part of Belly’s latest mixtape Up For Days, which in addition to The Weeknd, also includes collaborations with Travis $cott, French Montana, and Juelz Santana.
The newest member of the Roc Nation label, Belly describes his latest single and mixtape as “all the places I’ve been in my life. All the things I’ve been able to experience and the places I’ve seen. Up For Days is a reflection of my real life.”
