Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino Comes After Chris Brown In Twitter Rant

Chris Brown is no stranger to being in the spotlight for the wrong reasons, and he’s back at it again. This time, Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino went on a rant over Twitter to explain to her followers why she believes Chris Brown’s single Back To Sleep is filled with lyrics that perpetuate rape culture.

The song continuously grew in popularity, spending over 15 weeks on the charts, spawning a remix with Usher and Zayn, so it was just a waiting game until somebody made a comment on the song’s lyrical content.

The lyrics in question? “Just let me ride, I’mma f–k you back to sleep girl/ Don’t say a word, no, don’t you talk.”

Cosentino continued, criticizing Brown’s A&R team, as well as Billboard’s official review of the song.

Nearly three hours after starting, Consentino concluded her rant, posting a screenshot of a draft from her phone’s notes in an effort to help better emphasize her thoughts on the song and its lyrics.

This is not the first time Cosentino used her voice to comment on social issues. In February, she wrote an essay on her concerns with sexism and the music industry.

She explains: “Did anyone call The Beatles “whiny babies” for singing the lyrics “This boy wants you back again”?
