Since starting their band nearly 25 years ago, giving back to the community has always been important to Billy Talent. Now, they’re working to give back to their own community of Toronto.
The Canadian rockers have announced that they will be hosting a benefit concert for the victims of the deadly mass shooting on Toronto’s Danforth Avenue.
The TORONTO TOGETHER concert will see Billy Talent joined by Dallas Green’s City and Colour, punk rockers PUP, and members of Sum41 on stage at The Danforth Music Hall on August 11. The concert will take place during the Taste of the Danforth, an annual festival celebrating the food and culture of the Greektown neighbourhood.
In a statement announcing the benefit concert the band wrote:
“…We want to throw a concert to show the world and more importantly our community that Toronto is a place of love, of community, of kindness and compassion. The violence that has happened here this summer does not represent the majority. This city is one of the best places in the world and we have to stand up and band together. Let’s throw a massive show. Let’s raise money for the victims, their families, for local charities to raise awareness of gun control, and mental illness… While none of us have all the answers we feel we need to make a start. We need to help, but let’s fucking do something TOGETHER. Let’s get the powers that be TOGETHER. Let’s do something special for our city and all the amazing people that live here and deserve to be celebrated.”
On July 22, a gunman opened fire along Danforth Avenue in Toronto’s Greektown neighbourhood, killing two people and injuring another 13.
Still can’t grasp the reality of what happened yesterday. This is an area that our close friends and family live that is blocks from our studio but I believe in us, I believe in our community, I believe in love, I believe in you, I believe in Toronto.

Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the #TorontoStrong fund in an effort to support the community. Tickets for the show go on sale tomorrow (August 1) at 10 a.m.
