In 1999, Blink 182 released the infectious “What’s My Age Again,” the lead single off their third studio album, Enema Of The State. The video featured the pop punk trio running naked through the streets of LA, embodying freedom and immaturity, and giving a nod to more than a few innuendos—thanks to a sexy nurse and human sized banana.
The video helped make Blink 182 one of the most popular and beloved bands of the late 1990s and early 2000s, leading the way for more pop punk crossover artists and helping to shape the sound of radio during the time period.
After a very public line-up change this year that included founding member Tom DeLonge’s replacement by Matt Skiba, Blink 182 are again back on top thanks to their seventh studio album California. The record knocked Drake’s heavyweight Views from the top Billboard position, with the lead single “Bored To Death” marking the band’s first number one in a decade.
Now, Blink 182 are giving their loyal fanbase the ultimate throwback, working with Spotify as part of the streaming service’s Flash Frame series that will honour the careers of a group of musicians.
For their new single “She’s Out Of Her Mind,” Blink 182 are recreating their iconic “What’s My Age Again” video, complete with an upgrade that includes iPhones, iPads and a gender swap. Right, Adam Devine? Helllllo nurse!
Instead of Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker and former Blink 182 member Tom DeLonge, the new video stars social media personalities Lele Pons, Hannah Stocking and Vale Genta as the naked trio running through the streets of LA and playing in an empty studio.
The video is recreated shot-for-shot for the most part, with some scenes replaced by present day Blink 182 performing “She’s Out Of Her Mind” at a concert. Fully clothed.
Take a trip down memory lane and compare the new video to 1999’s “What’s My Age Again.” Baby ringer tees not included.
