It’s been three years since Bon Iver dropped new music, but after months of teasing, they’re back and better than ever with two new singles “Hey, Ma” and “U (Man Like).”
The songs are serene and nostalgic, creating an ambience that makes the listeners feel like they’re slowly drifting in a dream. The songs fit in perfectly with the rest of their discography, with the band staying true to their original sound even after over a decade together. No wonder fans like them so much.
Although both videos are technically lyric videos, they prominently focus on the visuals, with the lyrics looking like an afterthought. While “U (Man Like)” includes some live footage of someone on a rope swing, “Hey, Ma” is a sweet tribute to lead singer Justin Vernon’s childhood with his mother, featuring a compilation of home videos.
On Sunday, the band played recordings of the two tracks at London’s All Points East festival directing audiences to the cryptic, new website titled iCOMMAi. The site features blog posts teasing upcoming music, including mood boards and a list of collaborators.
The band also announced a fall tour, dropping the dates alongside the singles. You can catch Bon Iver in Vancouver September 7 and Toronto October 6. Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 7 and can be found here.
