Calvin Harris has made a career out of producing songs for A-list singers like Ellie Goulding, Rihanna, Florench Welch, Sia and more, giving the Scottish DJ a front row seat to personal concerts from the world’s biggest pop stars.
But for Harris’ new single “My Way,” he decided to go literal and cast himself as the track’s vocalist, doing things his way.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard Harris hit the mic. His track “Summer” is one of his most recognizable hits, while “Flashback” also features Harris pulling double duty as musician and singer.
The release of “My Way” arrives at an interesting time—the dark lyrics sounding like they relate to Harris’ famous ex, Taylor Swift. Calvin sings “Why wait to say, at least I did it my way / Lie awake, two faced / But in my heart I understand / I made my move and it was all about you / Now I feel so far removed.”
Harris premiered “My Way” on iHeartRadio and opened up about the single, saying, “[The] song’s kind of about breaking out of a situation that you thought was a good thing. Then, you’re way more comfortable out of it. And it could be anything. It could be a job, or it could be a relationship. I had kind of the idea for the concept for a few years, but I didn’t know how to work out how it sounded.”
The famed DJ revealed that he doesn’t plan on releasing a new album this year, but does have a song with Big Sean that he’s hoping will drop before the end of 2016.
