Camila Cabello hasn’t wasted any time pursuing her solo music career since leaving Fifth Harmony. Following Cabello’s highly publicized split from the girl group in December, the singer has been everywhere, including presenting at this past Sunday’s Grammy Awards.
Cabello and Machine Gun Kelly have continued to support their huge 2016 duet “Bad Things,” recently appearing on The Ellen Show, which marked Cabello’s first television solo performance since leaving the girls group. Cabello and MGK also performed together at the BBC Radio 1 Studios, where they delivered a beautiful cover of fellow X Factor artist James Arthur’s single “Say You Won’t Let Go.”
Now, Cabello, who is expected to drop her debut solo album sometime this year, is opening up to Seventeen Magazine and posing for two covers on her own.
Cabello revealed that her solo album will be a departure from Fifth Harmony’s sound, saying, “Fifth Harmony wasn’t the maximum expression of me individually. My fans are really going to know me from the music I’m writing. My goal is to be brave and open up my soul.”
The Miami native also stated that she’s still a fan of 5H, saying, “I’ll continue to wish them all the best, and I’m happy they are continuing their journey as Fifth Harmony. I’m also looking forward to hearing new music from the group and their solo endeavors.”
The 19-year-old revealed that she’s yet to have a long term boyfriend, but says that her go-to friend for advice on love is heartbreak hitmaker Taylor Swift. “Taylor is always the person that I go to for boy advice. The reason we became friends was purely because we think the same way about a lot of things: We’re both really sensitive and emotional when it comes to love. We love love, and we love writing songs about love.”
As for her dream collaborator in the studio, Cabello doesn’t name Taylor, but she does name someone who Taylor could totally hook her up with—Ed Sheeran. “He’s incredible at putting love, emotion, and feeling into words. I would love to see him go into a room and watch how he makes his magic. He always talks about how he loves making songs from the heart, and that’s something that I’ve pushed myself to do in my songwriting process, too.”
Camila Cabello will appear on the March/April issue of Seventeen Magazine.
