Camila Cabello Reveals How She Feels About Going No. 1 With ‘The Launch’

Camila Cabello, The Launch

Whether performing with her first band Fifth Harmony or releasing her solo material, Camila Cabello is used to being at the top of the charts. Now the singer and songwriter is getting to feel what it’s like to have a song she wrote performed by another group and hit the number one spot in the country.

On last week’s episode of The Launch (which you can watch in full here), music duo Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine brought their dancehall, EDM, and pop sound to the original track “Ain’t Easy,” written by Ryan Tedder and Camila Cabello. Hitting the studio with mentor Tedder, Woods and Fine put their own spin on the high energy pop track and less than 24 hours after being launched, the song went to No. 1 in Canada.

“Ain’t Easy” and its rocket fast ascension to the top of the charts knocked a number of huge tracks out of the way, including Camila Cabello’s huge 2017 single “Havana,” but it doesn’t look like the singer is at all upset at being dethroned by one of her own songs.

Speaking with eTalk, Cabello sent her warm congratulations to Elijah and Jamie. “Congratulations, first of all! Congratulations that you’re topping the charts right now. It’s so amazing,” said Cabello. “Ryan’s not here, but on behalf of Ryan and I, dudes, congrats! That’s so amazing and thank you for putting your voices on the song. That’s so nice!”

Hopefully the success of Cabello’s first solo album Camila, which was just released this month and featured Cabello as the head songwriter, as well as the success of “Ain’t Easy” means we’ll be hearing even more from the gifted writer.

Until then, we’ll be keeping “Ain’t Easy” on repeat.

Watch tonight’s new episode of The Launch on CTV and CTV GO at 9 p.m. ET with Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx and music producer Dan Huff join Scott Borchetta as mentors.
