Zayn Malik Covered A Classic Elvis Presley Track

Our favourite former One Directioner, Zayn Malik is always full of surprises. He may have broken our hearts after abandoning 1D, but he reassured our love for him with Mind of Mine. Now he’s back again, keeping our relationship exciting by teasing his second album with his rendition of Elvis Presley’s classic “Can’t Help Falling In Love.”

Last month, Malik announced his upcoming album with a tweet and teased, “Got a few surprises for you too .. here’s a taste.” He included a faithful cover of Beyoncé’s iconic “Me, Myself and I” from her 2003 debut solo album Dangerously In Love and put us in our feelings.

The cover teaser saga continues with Malik blessing his signature smooth sound to Elvis’ 1961 hit. The British crooner makes it much moodier with his touch of sultry falsettos and slow tempo, while staying true to the original lyrics. The bridge is the most swoon-worthy with Malik serenading, “Like a river flows/ Surely to the sea/ Darling, so it goes/ Some things are meant to be.”

The singer’s pop-R&B spins are the latest tracks to be released towards the anticipatory release of his sophomore album. Earlier this year, he released “Entertainer” as part of his series of cinematic music videos. The visual followed “Dusk Till Dawn” and “Let Me” which co-starred Breaking Bad’s Steven Bauer.

The “Pillowtalk” singer is not one to keep fans in the total dark. In an interview with Beats 1, Malik admitted that he wants to maintain mystery for the forthcoming LP, but shared intimate insights.

“With a second album, I think there’s always nerves around that the only reason I have experience and knowledge is because I was in a band for a very long time and I learned a lot of things. I get to use those experiences as a point of reference for the things that are going on now,” confessed Malik. “I feel like this record is a development from the last one and it’s going to reach people a bit differently and hopefully solidify the fact that, yeah I am a solo artist. I mean business.”

With a not so subtle reference to his former boy band days and all this build-up toward this next album, we have so many questions… including whether or not the artist’s muse his on-again-off-again girlfriend, Gigi Hadid?

Hadid advises, “Put your energy into something else babes.” Okay never mind, guess we’ll stop speculating and instead invest all our energy into waiting for the album release.
